The BMW Center for German and European Studies
The BMW Center for German and European Studies was established in 1990 as one of three North American "Centers of Excellence," each supported by a ten-year grant from the German government and administered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). At the end of the decade, BMW AG's $10 million endowment gift secured the Center's fundamental mission into the 21st century: to educate future generations of transatlantic leaders. In 2010, the BMW Center celebrated its 20th anniversary.

BMW Center Spotlight
A delegation from the DAAD-sponsored German Research Centre at the Tongji University in Shanghai visited the Center on November 19 to meet with Professors Jeff Anderson and Abe Newman. The group discussed cooperation and exchange opportunities between the two groups, and there is great potential for the centers to work together in the future.
On November 16 the Center hosted Gregor Gysi, Chairman of DIE LINKE in the German Bundestag. He spoke to CGES faculty and students about the the state of the European Union and the left's agenda for Germany and the Union. See photos and read more about the event here.
The Center recently became a member of the French Embassy Network of Centers of Excellence, and in light of this partnership, the French Senate has agreed host one SFS student for an internship each year. Click here to read about the agreement signed by Prof. Jeff Anderson. SFS looks forward to this exciting opportunity and relationship with the French Senate.
As part of this new partnership, the BMW Center hosted Olivier Wieviorka, Senior Fellow of the Institut Universitaire de France in November. See photos here.
Congratulations to all BMW Center Faculty and our over 300 alumni who have contributed to this excellent achievement!
