Narayan Shivapurkar, PhD

Narayan Shivapurkar, PhD, joined Lombardi in January 2009 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology. Dr. Shivapurkar holds a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Bombay in India and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute. Before coming to Lombardi, Dr. Shivapurkar was an assistant professor of pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. While there, his research efforts focused on studying the role of epigenetic regulation of gene expression in cancer. He used this research information to identify biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. At Lombardi, Dr. Shivapurkar’s work will focus on the role of microRNA in oncogenic and tumor suppressor pathways. He is particularly interested in identifying molecular targets for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.
