HHS Secretary, Cancer Survivors Recognize Lifesaving Cancer Screening Program
March 1, 2012
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, ACS Cancer Action Network and breast cancer survivors joined together at the Capital Breast Care Center (CBCC ) on October 4, 2011 to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event recognized the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, which gives low-income women access to lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings. On a similar note, the CBCC received a $200,000 grant from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield to allow women who need biopsies following suspicious findings on a diagnostic mammogram to receive an ultrasound-guided biopsy from CBCC. This expansion was also funded in part by the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation.
