Georgetown Concert Choir’s Messiah Sing-along Raises Funds for Cancer Research

Georgetown University's Concert Choir rekindles an old tradition to raise funds for cancer research.

On Monday, Demember 5, 2011, over 70 members of the Georgetown University community gathered together to rekindle the Georgetown tradition of singing George Frideric Handel’s Messiah. The Sing-along, which took place in McNeir Auditorium on campus, was put together by the Georgetown University Concert Choir and raised funds for cancer research at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Anthony DelDonna, program director and associate professor of musicology, and Frederick Binkholder, assistant professor and concert choir director, opened the event by discussing the Georgetown University tradition of singing the Messiah. Louis Weiner, MD, director of Georgetown Lombardi, provided an overview of the cancer center and how the event’s proceeds will be used for cancer research.
